It was like an old fashioned block party — only on a much grander scale. Mathias Eichler’s plan to close off a city block, set up a line of tables and invite the entire community to come together for an evening meal and toe-tapping entertainment came together wonderfully a week ago. Eichler, who owns the nearby einmaleins, a European products store, organized the downtown block party on July 10.
